Who am I in relation to God? (Part 3)—A child of God

While riding in an elevator, a young child was having a crying fit and sobbing with exhaustion. There were a few people in the elevator and the mother was trying unsuccessfully to console her child. As the elevator creeped along, the thought occurred to me, “I act that way with God, when I don’t get my way. Add a little physical exhaustion to the mix and I probably look just like this child.” I couldn’t help but smile, as the mother lovingly picked up her child to exit the elevator.

Jesus is our Savior who provides the way to become children of God.

John 1:12
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name
Galatians 3:26
For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

We need to be free from the damage of sin and because of Jesus our need is satisfied. He takes us from the war, imprisonment and death of sin into peace, freedom and life eternal.

In Christ, we are new. Our relationship with God is restored to fellowship, as it was before sin caused great damage.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
1 Peter 2:9-10
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

God provides a way for us to be free from the damage and darkness of our sin. Indeed, His mercy is overwhelming.
